Empathy and Sympathy

Empathy and sympathy are different because empathy is actually being able to feel someone else and relate to them, whereas sympathy is just feeling bad for another person. An example of empathy could be a person robbing a store or a bank. I have never robbed a bank or a store but I can understand the need for some people to do so. They may need the money to feed there family or help there family. It is a key skill for those studying history to be able to empathize because it is easy for someone to say that they would never own slaves but back in that time you probably would have owned slaves if you lived on a plantation.
